Within 24 hours, the E700 heater thawed the ground to a depth of 35 cm (13.8 in) with 94% heating efficiency |
Wacker Neuson introduced its Climate Technology equipment to the European market less than one year ago. Yet, our hydronic heating equipment has already proven its value on numerous, high-profile construction sites.
One time-sensitive application was an expansion project for the A8 freeway near Munich. Contractors continued to work throughout the winter months to keep the project on schedule. They faced nearly 300 m2 (3,230 ft2) of ground surface, frozen to a depth of 35 cm (13.8 in), and nearly 60% of the site was covered with ice.
Rather than using conventional heating methods of constructing a tent and using air heaters delivering only about 15% heating efficiency, contractors chose the portable E 700M hydronic heater from Wacker Neuson Climate Technology. Crews worked with a tight hose spacing to quickly deliver deep thawing. The hoses were covered with Red Wave Insulation Blankets to reflect the intense heat downward as well as direct it laterally.
The contractor’s efforts were quickly and efficiently rewarded. The E 700M heated the frozen area to the target depth within a mere 24 hours and with only a 6% heat loss.
E 700M Hydronic Heater
The Wacker Neuson E 700M is the least expensive, most efficient means of performing a wide variety of cold-weather heating applications – from frost prevention and ground thawing and concrete curing. Compared to fuel-inefficient traditional methods of operating a gas or oil heater inside an enclosure that offers merely 15% energy to the surface, the portable E 700M hydronic heating system boasts as much as 94% energy delivery. It saves contractors time and money and significantly reduces fuel consumption for working in sub-zero temperatures.
With its standard 700 m (2,296 ft) length of hose, the E 700M offers thaw capacities from 204 to 409 m2/h (2,195 to 4,402 ft2/h) and cure capacities reaching 409 m2/h (4,402 ft2/h). The hydronic heater delivers a 74 kW (252,723 BTU/hr) heat output at normal operating temperature ranges of 38 to 82° C (100 to 179° F), and a digital temperature controller allows operators to quickly adjust the heat transfer fluid output temperature to maximize thawing and curing capacities.
The bottom-line benefit of the E 700M is the unit efficiently heats large areas so that construction activities can continue, even with extreme frost conditions. The unit requires only about three days to heat a 204 m2 (2,195 ft2) area to a target depth of 1m (3.2 ft). With conventional methods requiring an enclosure, heating this same area will take up to 25 days. This results in significant time, money and fuel savings for the contractor.
